Laser in action

By November 27, 2019 Greenbay Vet News

Since 2017 we have been offering therapeutic laser treatments, and we now have units at both our Torquay and Paignton vets surgeries. The infra-red light of the laser causes changes in the patient’s tissues which include a reduction in pain, a reduction in inflammation and accelerated healing times. Laser treatment can help reduce our patients’ reliance on traditional medications and also helps to improve comfort and speed healing following the surgical procedures we perform.

These photos show how quickly the benefits of laser therapy can be seen, in this case following knee surgery. As can be seen on the ‘before’ photos, this patient had quite marked swelling and bruising post surgery. The ‘after’ photos are taken after 3 laser therapy sessions and show a dramatic improvement, with the owner noticing a change within 24 hours of the first session.

Laser therapy is non-invasive, non-painful and non-toxic. Our staff have been fully trained and ASA laser therapy poses no risk of burns or discomfort unlike some other laser units available.

The following is a list of some of the conditions where our ASA laser can help:

  • Arthritis
  • Disc disease
  • Back pain
  • Acute and chronic tendon lesions
  • Sprains and strains
  • Fractures, both repaired surgically and treated conservatively
  • Ear disease, both chronic and acute
  • Stomatitis (painful inflammation of the gums and tissues in the mouth)
  • Infected or non-healing wounds
  • Surgical wounds
  • Lick granulomas (chronic itchy skin lesion in dogs)
  • Bruising
  • Reducing scar formation

Call us on 01803 606059 (Torquay) or 843836 (Paignton) for more information or to book an appointment with a vet to discuss the potential benefits to your pet.  You can also book an appointment with the vet online.  Once a treatment programme has been approved by a vet, our nursing team deliver the laser treatments via our nursing clinics.
