Community Defibrillators

By September 11, 2023 Greenbay Vet News

We are pleased to share the news that Greenbay Vets has purchased two community defibrillators (AEDs).  30,000 out of-hospital cardiac arrests happen each year in the UK and 9 out of 10 are sadly fatal. A cardiac arrest can affect anyone at any time, whether you’re at home, work, or out in public. By installing defibrillators outside both our Torquay and Paignton surgeries they are available to clients, employees or the general public should they be needed.

To help someone who is in cardiac arrest survive, a defibrillator needs to be found as quickly as possible. For every minute it takes for the defibrillator to reach someone and deliver a shock, their chances of survival lower.

A defibrillator should be used when a person is in cardiac arrest. CPR should be done until you can get a defibrillator.  If you see someone having a cardiac arrest, call 999, start CPR and get someone to find a defibrillator – our team can access ours, or when we are closed the emergency services can access the code via the NHS circuit.
