A team from Greenbay recently attended a local schools healthcare careers conference. This is a great event hosted by Torquay Girls Grammar School enabling students from multiple local schools to explore careers in healthcare. Although the majority of the event showcases human healthcare careers, we were kindly invited to hopefully inspire a few vets and veterinary nurses of the future.
Greenbay owner Laura did one of the keynote speeches addressing the 150 or so students who attended the event, giving an insight into a career as a veterinary surgeon and the training route. She was joined by RVNs Laura Sproul, Libby Mitchell and Ellen Higgins for the ‘carousel’ part of the event where students could chat to contributors. They used things like our CPR dog ‘Casper’, a quiz and photos to engage the students.
It was lovely to meet lots of potential vets and veterinary nurses, and provide them with advice about meeting their careers goals. Several have already enquired about doing work experience with us too.
