What to Expect

Both of our surgeries are RCVS accredited and ISFM accredited Cat Friendly Clinics.

TORQUAY

The surgery is located on the vibrant shopping street of Walnut Road in Chelston.  There has been a vet on our site in Walnut Road for decades, but after extensive investment and refurbishment inside we have brought the practice into the 21st century.

There is free parking on the street outside the surgery and we are always happy to help if you need assistance carrying your pet in or out of the car. The whole practice is air-conditioned, for the comfort of pets and their owners.

We have 15 minute appointments as standard, 30 minutes for new patients. If your pet is nervous they are welcome to wait outside until their appointment, and you are welcome to pop in whenever you are passing so they can just come in for a treat and a fuss.  We also have ‘cat pods’ behind reception, so that cats can wait without being able to see any dogs in the waiting room.

Our dedicated operating theatre has undergone total refurbishment to ensure an optimum environment for performing surgery on our pet patients.  Along with state-of-the-art lighting, we have invested in a ‘harmonic scalpel’. Few vet practices have one of these, but it is standard in human surgery and allows us to perform operations with less bleeding and less pain – something we are confident our pets benefit from!

Our refurbished x-ray room and ‘floating table’ means we can easily x-ray anything from a kitten to a Great Dane. We also have a modern ultrasound machine, used for diagnosing medical and heart problems.

No human dentist would dream of performing dentistry without the option of dental x-ray, and we feel the same goes for our pet patients. We can perform teeth cleaning and extractions of diseased teeth, and also endeavour to keep your pet’s mouth healthy with dental hygiene advice.  We have dedicated equipment for rabbits and rodents, to address their particular dental problems.

We have facilities to hospitalise pets, with dogs and cats kept separate and an additional room for rabbits and exotic pets.

We have a range of laboratory equipment, so we are able to offer most tests ‘in-house’. We still utilise the services of specialist pathologists at an external site for some tests – working with these great vets enables us to provide a comprehensive diagnostic laboratory service.

We are able to offer a complete veterinary service at our Torquay surgery, with no need to travel outside of Torbay except in the rare cases of Specialist referral for your pet e.g. for a brain scan.

Appointments with a vet or a nurse are available Monday to Saturday throughout the day and may be made by phone, in person, or online.  Please let the receptionist know when booking if you have a preference as to which vet you see; for ongoing conditions, it is best to see the same vet and gives them a chance to really get to know you and your pet.  Routine operations can be booked Monday-Friday; we will always try to accommodate your pet on a day convenient to you, but we limit the number each day to ensure each pet gets our full attention and we can handle emergencies.

PAIGNTON

Our Paignton surgery is very convenient for pet owners located in Goodrington, Broadsands, Galmpton, Churston Ferrers, Waddeton, and Stoke Gabriel.  We are also popular with residents of Brixham and Kingswear.  It is located on a quiet, residential street just off Brixham Road (opposite the White Rock development and Lidl), with ample free car parking.  The whole practice is air-conditioned, for the comfort of pets and their owners.

We have 15-minute appointments as standard and with only one vet consulting at a time we avoid the situation of a waiting room full of anxious pets.  We have ‘cat pods’ behind reception so that cats can wait without being able to see any dogs in the waiting room. Our nurses have plenty of time to chat about preventative health care and diet here, and many clients simply pop in for a chat while passing!

We can do a lot more than just consultations at this deceptive site! We have an operating theatre, anaesthetic monitoring equipment, standard lab equipment, and pet accommodation.  This means we can perform routine surgery e.g. neuterings and stitch-ups, as well as diagnostic procedures.  In 2018 we installed a digital x-ray system to allow us to do even more for our Paignton-based patients without them needing to travel, and in 2020 we went one step further and added an ultrasound machine.

Our Paignton surgery is fully equipped for pet dentistry, including dental x-ray.

Your pet may need to travel to our Torquay surgery in the following circumstances:

  • For orthopaedic (bone and joint) or advanced surgery.  This is because the equipment required for these operations is at Torquay.
  • For hospitalisation if they are unwell.
  • For endoscopy.
  • In an emergency.

We will endeavour to help with any transport issues. Our team of staff work at both surgeries, and our computer system covers both sites, so your pet will be well known about by everyone whichever surgery you routinely attend.
